Marlon: Join us at Hylton for a Super day out

West Indian international Marlon Black is hoping people will be hit for six at the ‘Super’ entertainment on offer at Hylton Cricket Club this weekend.

Ex-Windies fast bowler Black, who took five wickets on debut against Australia, now plays for the Sunderland side, who are based at the Billy Hardy Sports Complex in Castletown.

And this Sunday, Black and the club will be serving up sizzling action on and off the field with his Super Six Cricket event. The Hylton ace is urging seasoned fans of the sport and newcomers to get along to what promises to be a fun-filled, action-packed event.

Black hopes the Super Six can encourage others to enjoy the sport and to find out more about Hylton CC.

He said: “This is a community club and we want people to come along and see what Hylton is all about. We restarted the club’s junior section this year, and we want to let more people know about the good work going on here.

“And hopefully it might encourage even more people to come along and get involved.”

Certainly, Hylton’s past success in bringing through young cricketers is nothing to be sniffed at, and Black realises that kids coming through the ranks are the lifeblood of any club at local level.

“Whatever club I play for, I like to learn a little bit about their history,” he said. “Hylton has an excellent history and has hadacoupleofplayerswhohave started out as juniors at the club and gone on to play for Durham as professional cricketers (current bowler Chris Rushworth and Durham and England wicketkeeper Phil Mustard).

“Hylton is a good club and there is no reason why we can’t have more success here. If we can get one kid to go on to play for Durham while I’m with the club that would be great.

“But it would also be exciting to see young players coming up through the ranks to make the first and second team ranks of Hylton in the future. It’s a club with excellent facilities and some great people working hard to make sure that Hylton is successful going forward.”

The Super Six Cricket Day starts with a lads and lasses v mums and dads match at 10.30am. “There will be a Caribbean-style BBQ and a DJ playing throughout the day, kids entertainment, and we will also have a cricket memorabilia auction,” added Black.

“My team should feature some Test players and West Indian professionals, because I’m entering a team to win the competition, but I also want people who come along to see some great, fun and exciting cricket.”
