Dancer’s dilemma delight
Students across Washington schools were celebrating making the grade as they collected their GCSE results.
Twinkle-toed Biddick Academy pupil Tabitha Lennon is facing the best kind of dilemma after surprising herself by collecting one A*, six As and 4Bs.
She said: “I am not sure whether I am going to go on with A-levels or dance. I have got a dance scholarship, so I may go for that.”
Sixty-five per cent of Biddick pupils got an A* to C grade in maths, while 54 % did the same in English.
Deputy headteacher Andy Walmsley said the school was pleased with the results and especially its progress on the new Progress 8 standard, which measures a student’s progress betweenKeyStage2and Key Stage 4 across eight key subjects.
Elsewhere, Charlotte Place will be back to St Robert of Newminster Catholic School in September to study maths, furthermaths,biologyand chemistry at A-level, after scooping ten straight A*s.
Headteacher Dean Juric was delighted with this year’s results, with about 81% of pupils getting A* to C in English and Maths.
Star man Craig Fergus has his sights set on college after scooping a bumper set of GCSE results at Oxclose Community Academy, picking up four A*s, an A, two Bs, two Cs and two Ds.
Headteacher Tony Cunninghamwaspleased with results that saw 55% of pupils secure English and Maths at grade A* to C and paid tribute to the hard work of both students and staff.
The day was, however, touched with sadness, with news that design technology teacher John Drummond has passed away during the holidays, aged just 33.
