Lions calling for dippers to sign-up
It’sthattimeagain-entriesfor Sunderland’s Boxing Day Dip are open.
Sunderland Lions Club, which organises the annual event at Seaburn, is hoping to make 2016 a record-breaking year.
“We have already received some 300 entries, so come on everyone, let’s make it a recordnumberthisyear,”said spokeswomanAnneFielding.
“Itwillbethe42ndDipand we are looking forward to another successful event.”
The Lions Club takes 20 percentofsponsorshipraised from the event, which it uses to fund its own good causes suchastheannualChristmas Wish campaign, then passes on the remainder to Dippers’ chosen charities.
“Lastyearwehadapproximately750dipperswhoraised a magnificent £44,000,” said Anne.
“Everyyearthestandardof fancy dress is amazing and a sight to behold on Boxing Day and we encourage the people of Sunderland to come along and give the dippers all the support they can.”
The Lions Club is also on the lookout for help with running the event: “Actually organising the Dip is a lot of hard work which begins in August and the Lions Club of Sunderland is always looking outfornewmemberstocome along and join in the fun and fellowship of being a Lion,” said Anne.

Dippers should remember that with so many people involved in the event, all the rulesintheDipbookletwhich they will receive should be read and carefully followed.
Registration closes on Monday, December 12 to allow time for the organisation of the event and compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
