NEW BOYS BOOST SILKSWORTH BID
Silksworth CW have added two new signings to their upwardly mobile squad ahead of tomorrow’s home league clash with Seaham Red Star Reserves.
Talented midfielder John Maddison, snapped up from Wolviston, is ready to make his debut after being unable to play in Wednesday’s 5-0 success against Wolviston, due to a gentleman’s agreement.
Manager Andy Stobbart said: “He is a lad who I think will strengthen up our squad in the midfield area.”
Also returning to the club is John Bowes, a Horden lad who played for the club three seasons ago before resigning for his home town club. He is a full-back who has had a few injuries in the last few seasons and has not been attached to any club this campaign.
Rob Hall and James Cook are both back in a big squad, after sitting out in midweek due to one-match suspensions, after collecting five cautions.
It prompted secretary David Steele to say: “It may seem early in the season to pick up five yellow cards, but when you consider the facts that we’ve played 23 games so far, and with the new rule interpretations by referees, it doesn’t surprise anyone who is involved with level 7 football at the moment.”
Michael McVay, who also missed out in midweek, is back for the game and the pleasing news was Daley Clarke played for an hour against Jarrow last weekend and is getting back to full fitness.
Sunderland West End, sitting in 14th place after a hit-and-miss start to the season, welcome Darlington 1883 Reserves to Ford Quarry and are looking to have a full strength squad available, but they are awaiting on Jonathan Grainger’s fitness.
West End are delighted to have last season’s successful manager, Anthony Nelson, back at the club as part of the management team after a spell away from the game.
Ashbrooke Belford House travel to Richmond Town and have Marc Moon missing with a fractured elbow and Connor O’Neil with a groin injury.
However, they do have four players returning to the squad in Kieron Stokoe, Kyle Sumner, Mark Curry and Callum Charlton.
The Dalesmen have centre-half Simon Pinkney, who recently joined from Northallerton Town, set to make his home debut.
Central midfielder Dan Caisley and striker Colin Anderson both return after missing the win at Leam Rangers.
Town do have a major doubt though, with leading scorer Scott Ryan struggling with a hamstring injury picked up playing Sunday football.
Coxhoe Athletic travel to Prudhoe Town and secretary Paul Charlton said: “Neil Charlton, Chris Baxter and Aiden Hart should be back and Mitchell McKenna may be available, but he has a slight injury.
“We would just like to start winning again. we have had a rough patch during October and conceded quite a few goals, but hope for a good performance.”
South Shields Reserves entertain neighbours Boldon CA in an intriguing clash at Harton.
Visiting manager Paul Mossa will give two 16-yearolds, Daniel Dunbar and Callum Reay, another taste of senior football.
Boldon still have too many first-team players missing with injury and work commitments and the two young players both played well in last week’s defeat to Redcar. Manager Mossa will be hoping to have more players available for the fixture.
Shields Reserves manager Kevin Bolam hopes to have Matthew Davidson and Tony Fox returning to the squad, while Oliver Martin faces a late fitness test. James Wilson joins the injury list following an ankle injury in the midweek win over Darlington 1883 Reserves.
Leaders Jarrow are big favourites at home to Stokesley SC, despite losing to the former Northern League club in a cup tie this season.
Paul Burrell returns after missing Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Cleator Moor Celtic, but Josh Allen, Darren Morton and Grant Pressling miss out and Max Kirkham is a doubt. Robbie Coleman and Nathan Bell are expected to be available again.
Jarrow boss Dave Bell said: “On the back of two great wins in our last two games against very good opposition we again expect a really tough game against Stokesley.
“We have a determination in the squad that keeps us going even when not at our best. Our desire is topclass.”
Hartlepool entertain Windscale, with John Stephenson passed fit to play after his knock last week, Rob Hammond and Luke Naylor, who have missed the last few games due to work, could return and Dale Campion may also be available.
Leam Rangers entertain Harton & Westoe, looking to extend their advantage over the bottom team to 16 points.
