TIMM CHOPS DOWN TREE
The Cherry Tree were brought back down to earth as Sunderland Railway Club earned a smash-and-grab 3-2 victory in Division Two.
The Cherries were cruising with a 2-0 lead, courtesy of Craig Gordon and Ryan Campbell, but Ryhope rallied well. Star man Ricardo Cabezas and John Brannen levelled, then Bradley Timm hit an unbelievable winner with an audacious overhead kick from outside the box to nick the win. Cameron Arthurs shone for Tree.
The Promenade could only call on the bare 11 against New Tavern, but it wasn’t an issue as they eased to a 5-1 win.
James Appleby ran the show and gave Promenade an early lead. Paul Muir hit a quick double before the break. Craig Neal’s neat finish gave New Tavern hope, but Matthew Harding and James Roper sealed their fate.
The Stella earned another league win, demolishing Mill View CIU 7-1.
Ross Topping hit a hattrick, with Lewis Monaghan (2), Gavin Teasdale and Ross Allsopp also notching.
Mill View made it hard for themselves after they had two men sent for early baths, but Jake McDermott replied late on.
New Town came out on top in a 3-2 win at Pennywell Comrades.
Mark Emmerson, Lewis Holland and Phil Binks gave New Town the win, despite efforts from Kyle Connolly and Paul Corlett.
Carl Waters starred for Comrades, with Elliott Salicki best for New Town.
Andrew Donnelly and Dan Brown ensured a seventh straight league defeat for Lakeside SSC as AFC Wearside won 2-0.
Josh Campbell was Wearside’s star man, while Aiden Stoker shone for Lakeside.
Hendon Athletic bounced back from their previous whipping with a close 2-1 win at Martin Telfer Carpets.
Shaun “Gunner” Graham finished a great move by finding the top corner with a classy volley, but the Carpetmen equalised when super sub James Knight fired past Craig Chapman.
The best was left till last, though. Excellent play from Bri Carter and a good interchange with Graham creat- ed space to dink the ball into the top corner, again from 25 yards, reminiscent of a young Eric Cantona, to bask in the glory of the winner.
The Park went goal crazy in an 18-0 Third Division win at Railway Tavern. Saying it was a one-sided game was a huge understatement.
Michael Pattison, who usually plies his trade in the top divisions, showed his class, smashing seven goals past the unlucky keeper.
Lewis Fairley and Jordan Ayre added trebles, with Errel Freeman, Ryan McCollin (2), Connor Gales and Aiden King finishing Railway off.
Shaun Fisk came calling again for table-topping Grange Park as his double secured a 2-0 win over Park View. View defended well, but Fisk was too hot to handle. Jack Callaghan earned his stripes for Park View.
Wearmouth CW Juniors hammered The Dolphin 7-1.
Craig Williams (3), Chris Hollern (2), star man Gary Stoker and Dan Hardy did the damage, with Lee Etheridge hitting poor Dolphin’s reply. Rob Usher shone for Dolphin.
Silksworth Catholic Club moved second with a closefought 2-1 win at TC. Dan Pattison and Decklyn Hutchinson scored, while Peter Naisry replied. Darren Flynn was TC’s top man, with James Burlinson best for Catholic.
Millfield Oddies chalked up another three points with an easy 4-1 derby win over Millfield Free Gardeners.
David Laing scored a double, backed by Alan Rose and Chris Robins goals. Anth Lock starred for Gardeners, with Billy Mitchell hitting their consolation. Ryan Pearson shone for Oddies.
Scott Stevenson was like a young David Beckham as his free-kick found the top corner for Wear United’s opener in a 3-2 win at Westmount.
The hosts rallied to go 2-1 up, thanks to Stephen Dixon and Joe Reynolds. But star man Mick Smith and Steve Barnes turned it around again to see United home.
Ryhope New Railway produced a much-improved performance and only lost 2-1 to Penshaw CC.
Joe Bignall and Jonathan Snelling hit Penshaw’s goals, while Paul Jackson replied.
Ryhope’s top performer was Connor Glendenning, with Aaron Brennan best for Penshaw.
Hendon were dumped out the Joe Holborn Memorial Cup after being outplayed by Jolly Potters from the off.
Paul Webster grabbed two fine goals and Hendon made things harder when Paul Laws was sent off. Lewis Dodd made it 3-0 to ensure the win, though Martin Thompson hit a late consolation goal.
