Sunderland lad Gavin proud to be a Foundation ambassador

-

Sunderland-born businessman Gavin Slark is saddling up for a new role.

Gavin, chief executive of Ireland’s Grafton Group, has been named as an Ambassador for Sunderland AFC’s charity, the Foundation of Light.

He was invited to join the charity in recognition of his remarkable fund-raising efforts.

The 51-year-old has become an integral part of the Foundation’s annual international cycle challenges, which have raised almost £300,000 to benefit thousands of children and families across the North East.

“I am absolutely delighted and honoured to become an Ambassador for a charity, which is very close to my heart.

“I first got involved with the Foundation in 2011 when it was organising its first Cycle Challenge from Dublin to Sunderland.

“I’m a Sunderland lad born and bred and welcomed the chance to support a charity that does so much good work in my home town.

“I know how important it is to have access to opportunities that can help improve your life and the lives of those around you.

“Being a Sunderland lad, I also know these aren’t always easy to come by and that’s why I was drawn to get involved with the Foundation of Light.

“These are exciting times for the Foundation and I am looking forward to helping them do even more in the future.”

Sir Bob Murray CBE, Foundation of Light founder and chairman of trustees, added: “Gavin has been a keen supporter and championed the Foundation for over five years so we’re thrilled he has accepted our invitation to become more involved as an Ambassador.

“His personal fundraising endeavours are quite immense and have resulted in over £100,000 being reinvested into Sunderland communities. His commitment, passion and drive is evident.”
