Hull hope new boys can lift survival bid

-

Hull City head coach Marco Silva hopes for a big impact from new signings Oumar Niasse and Evandro in the push for Premier League safety.

Senegal striker Niasse, 26, has joined on loan from Everton, while Hull paid Porto an undisclosed fee for Brazilian Evandro, 30.

“Evandro’s a smart, clever player. He’s a creative midfielder who has come to help our team. He’s an expressive player,” said Silva, who previously had the player at Estoril.

“He always tries to do things well, which is important. He’s a very good professional.

“Niasse is a striker, a strong, fast player. He’s not a normal number nine, always playing in a fixed position.”

Silva is still looking to add to his squad in his bid to steer the Tigers off the foot of the table, following a nine-game league run without a win which has left them in the drop zone alongside Sunderland and Swansea.

He is determined to strengthen his defence and add at least one winger to his squad. Silva said: “We don’t have real, natural wingers in our squad and we’re trying to add them to it.”

But he refused to be drawn on the future of midfielder Robert Snodgrass or confirm whether West Ham had made an improved bid after an initial offer last week had been turned down.

He said: “Snodgrass is a good player. He’s had a good season, but he’s our player. He’s important for us.”

Hull midfielder Markus Henriksen will be out for up to three months after injuring a shoulder in midweek.

Northampton have named ex-Newport and Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh as their new manager, succeeding the sacked Rob Page.

Sheffield United have sealed a permanent transfer of successful Burnley left-back loanee Daniel Lafferty.
