Collision leaves OAP in ‘serious’ condition

A pension er who was hit by a car is in a‘ serious’ condition.

The woman was struck by a car in Station Road, near the East Boldon Metro Station, at around 3pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for Northumbri­aPolice said the woman was described as “serious, but stable” in hospital.

The 75-year-old pensioner was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with what was believed to be a possible head injury.

A North East Ambulance spokeswoma­n confirmed they were called to a road traffic collision near East Boldon Metro Station at 3.05pm and took the woman to hospital by ambulance.

A Northumbri­a Police spokesman said the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
