Metro on track to deliver?

-

Running the Metro system must feel like a thankless task.

When all runs smoothly and on time, there’s barely a whisper from the commuters.

When it goes wrong, all hell is let loose.

Sometimes it feels as if there have been more wrong days than right.

Nexus will no doubt have statistics revealing that they get it right much more often than not, but statistics count for little when you’re late for work or an important appointment because of a scarcity of trains or problems on the line.

Which may well explain the less-than-enthusiastic response from our readers online when the new Metro timetable was revealed.

A new timetable; old grievances.

In truth, when the Metro system is running fault-free, it is an excellent service and one of which we ought to be proud.

Our minimum requirement is that the trains are comfortable and run on time.

After that, we want the people who run the system to listen to our concerns, and act on them.

The latest timetable revealed on our pages today, claims to be a direct response to the needs of the customer.

Nexus director Raymond Johnstone said: “Nexus is responding passenger demand for more trains when people need them - in the early morning before the traditional ‘rush hour’ begins.”

There will also be changes to trains at peak times, again to help make travelling on the Metro a better more user-friendly experience.

The new timetable begins on February 5. If it fails to deliver, we should let them know.

If it helps, a little thanks may be in order.
