Winner: Jean Bramham

-

As she held her trophy, Jean Bramham immediately paid tribute to the people who helped her win it.

It was a team effort, and Jean said: “Without that group, we could not do it.”

There’s 15 of them and they are all volunteers, she added.

“They do it for the community, and I do think they make a difference,” said Jean who has spent years working to make a positive difference to the lives of people living in Town End Farm.

On a voluntary basis, she supports the Town End Farm Residents’ Association in her role as secretary where she guides and oversees all events.

She does so much more besides.

On top of that, she is also a governor and PTA member at Town End Farm School and works with Gentoo to benefit the community.

The citation for her said: “Jean works really hard to help people in the Town End Farm area. She has done it for years and she has done it all voluntarily.”

Despite the glowing praise and the huge cheers from the awards night audience, Jean was still stunned to be chosen as a winner.

“I am overwhelmed,” she admitted.

And she also told of her admiration for others who were at the awards night.

“There are people who I think are more deserving. Everyone is a winner tonight.”

Jean told of the difference that teamwork makes.

“We all spur each other on,” she said.

She said people did not do community work for the praise they got in return – they did it for the love of the work.

But she said the dedication shown made her “very proud” of those she worked with.

Also shortlisted: Roger Morrison. Karen Wood. Beaty Gorden.
