High praise for Seaham School
Seaham High School opened on September 8, 2016, on the site of the old High Colliery.
It is a state-of-the-art building with fantastic teaching, sports, dance and drama facilities.
It has offered the school the opportunity to relaunch itself and build on the excellent results from previous years.
In 2015 the school won national recognition for its innovative work on teaching and learning, being named Creative School of the Year for its approach.
Judges said: “Creativity is embedded in every aspect of teaching and learning and has provided the impetus for significant improvement.”
They also added: “Far from adopting well-worn recipes for complying with Ofsted criteria to achieve its current status of good, it has been enthusiastically innovative.
“Seaham is indeed a role model for all other schools.”
In 2016 the school was shortlisted and commended in three categories, English Team of the Year, Arts Team of the Year and Community and Collaboration.
Results remain high with 67% of students achieving C grade or better in English and maths, 89% achieved C grade or above in English and 70% in maths.
In our most recent inspection Ofsted rated the school “good” saying: “This is a school where every child really does matter.”
Inspectors stated: “Students have positive attitudes towards school.
“They are proud of their school and this is reflected in the way they behave.
“They arrive on time and are ready to learn.
“They are polite and courteous and there are high levels of mutual respect”
