Hetton School’s Girls Under-15 team were crowned Durham Cricket Board Chance to Shine champions after bowling over their opponents throughout each stage of the annual competitio­n. In the opening fixture Hetton progressed with victory over Sandhill View amassing a total of 115 from their eight overs. The quarter-final saw victory over neighbours Kepier Academy as Hetton tallied 119/0 from their eight overs resulting in a victory by 75 runs. The score of 107 was enough to take Hetton through to the county finals as the team bowled out Biddick Academy for just 25 runs.

Eppleton Cricket Club Indoor Junior Coaching will start on Sunday, February 19, at Hetton School in it new sports facilities. The sessions are open to all junior players from seven to 15 years old. The indoor sessions will run from Sunday, February 19, until Sunday, March 26,from 10am to noon and cost £2 per person. The club is on the lookout for junior players of all ages. Have you just moved to our area or you are not sure where the local Parish Church is located. St Michael and All Angels’ Church, High Street, Easington Lane, covers the areas of Hetton, Easington Lane, Eppleton and Moorsley. Services are held on: First Sunday, 10am Holy Communion in Hetton and Eppleton Community Hall, second and third Sunday, 10am Holy Communion in church, fourth Sunday, 10am praise and worship service in church. Every Tuesday at 10am there is a Holy Communion Service in church. Messy church is held on the first and third Sunday at 4pm in Hetton and Eppleton Community Hall. Every Wednesday (during term-time,) from 3.30pm to 5pm in church, children from five to 11 years meet for Big Messy After School club. The Church is also open on the second Monday of the month from 6.30pm to take enquiries for weddings, banns of marriage and baptisms. St Mary and St Peter’s Market Place is new for this year. Go along to the project on Saturday, February 18, from 10.30am to 2.30pm and have a wonder around the market place. There will be a wide variety of stalls and demonstrat­ions, there will be something for all the family. Refreshmen­ts will be available and entry is free. Tables and space are also available to hire at £10. Contact Sarah for more informatio­n or to book a place.

Exercise sessions run every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, from 10am to 10.45am St Mary and St Peter’s Project . The session will include the use of Easyline machines along with a cardio-based workout. Classes are £2. For more informatio­n, contact Sarah.

Volunteers are needed to help maintain the project’s community garden. Volunteers meet every Monday from 9.30am to noon. If you would like to help go along to speak to some of the other volunteers and enjoy an cup of tea or coffee. Other days and times can be arranged, speak to Sarah (number above).

There are currently places available in the toddler group, which runs every Wednesday (term-time only) from 9.30am to 11am. Sessions cost £1.50 per child, which includes toast and juice. All are welcome.

Carpet Bowl: Do you have any experience in carpet bowls? St Mary and St Peter’s Community has been given carpet bowls equipment and is looking to set up a new group. If you would be interested, contact Sarah (number above).

Humbledon Methodist Church runs a numbe of weekly activities including Monday: Brownies at 6.30pm; Tuesday: Weight Watchers from 6pm; Wednesday: Open door from 11am to 1pm, coffee and light lunches served, starting tomorrow; Thursday: Slimming World from 6.30pm; Sunday: Worship at 10.45am. Humbledon Open door, in the church hall, is held each Wednesday with tea and coffee toast served from 11am to noon and light lunches from noon to 1pm. All are welcome to enjoy fellowship, renew old acquaintan­ces and generally enjoy time togethers.

South Bents Townswomen’s Guild meets tomorrow in Whitburn Methodist Church hall at 7pm. The speaker will be Phil Curtis.
