Carving out a new career
Over the last few weeks the focus has been on companies educating their current staff or bringing in new apprentices to train and support the business.
Today WEAR IN is going to highlight what you can do as an individual who wants to carve a new career or improve your own prospects through personal development.
JB Skills Training works with many individuals who sign up for management, IT and social media, health and care, and even personal training qualifications. Some of these courses are funded and for those that aren’t, JB Skills helps individuals access Learner Loans, so they can fund themselves and pay it back once qualified. A great example of this learning route is the partnership between JB Skills Training and Everyone Active. The two organisations have joined together to bring a learning program to those wanting to train to be a personal trainer, with sites across Sunderland being involved. The Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training qualifies the learner to be their own boss and work their own hours.
The qualification is done while working in a gym and the course covers anatomy and physiology, meaning the trainer will know how the body works and how to train it.
The course consists of exams, worksheets, case studies and practical assessment and is certified by Active IQ, recognised by REPS and CIMSPA, the fitness industry’s regulatory bodies.
The other units specifically cover health, safety and welfare; principle of exercise fitness and health; client support; programming of personal training; delivery of sessions; nutritional principles and planning/ instructing gym-based exercise.
Alongside JB Skills Training is Lee Axon, a Sunderland-based trainer and owner of T4 Training, who mentors the learners and gives the support and advice needed to be successful.
Lee said: “It’s with great pleasure that T4 Training has collaborated with JB Skills Training Ltd, to mentor the next wave of personal trainer.
“We are delighted to be assisting in offering people the chance to build their own business, be their own boss and above all, change people’s lives through personal training services.”
JB Skills also links up with Xercise4Less, SR2 Fitness, Pro-Performance and Vision Health and Fitness.
