£3m Lotto cash for city

A TOTAL OF 70 PROJECTS BENEFIT FROM NATIONAL FUNDING PROGRAMME

Projects in Sunderland were handed £3million in National Lottery funding last year, it has been announced.

Seventy grants were given out in the city during 2016,providing a big boost to arts, sports and heritage projects alongside community groups helping those most in need. Grants given included: £9,552 to Hendon Young People’s Project to expand their health and wellbeing activities and workshops.

£9,855 to Food4Thoug­ht to pilot a 10-week-long interactiv­e health education workshop for people with learning difficulti­es.

£10,000 to Living History Limited (North East) to support the developmen­t and delivery of an inter-generation­al community outreach choir.

From today, these examples have the possibilit­y of gaining nationwide acclaim by entering The National Lot- tery Awards 2017 – the annual search for the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.

Winners will receive a £3,000 cash prize and national recognitio­n at a glittering ceremony broadcast on BBC One.

John Barrowman MBE, presenter of the National Lottery Awards show, said: “The awards rightly put the focus on ordinary people doing extraordin­ary things with National Lottery funding, whose efforts go such a long way and are indeed changing lives.

“National Lottery players can be very proud to have contribute­d towards their fine work.”
