Youngsters ease to sixth straight victory

-

Sunderland’s Under-14s made it six wins in a row with a comfortable 41-14 win over Consett at Hill View on Sunday.

Tries by captain Jacob Feeney, Ollie Beattie and Joe Cowie, plus two conversions by Rowan May gave the Ashbrooke youngsters a 19-7 half-time lead.

There were further scores from Arron Norman, Archie Elwell, Caleb Lowes and a second from Beattie that secured the win.

Scrum half Harry Robinson was named man of the match.

At Ashbrooke, the Under-13s failed to get out the blocks in the first half as Horden and Peterlee stormed into a 10-0 lead.

However, tenacious tackling by Ethan Ellis and Bryson Robinson in the second half put the visitors on the back foot.

Centre Zak Kennedy scampered down the left wing to open the scoring for Sunderland. That was followed by a quick-fire brace from Vincent Hessel as Sunderland edged into a 15-10 lead.

Horden replied and battled their way back into the game, and despite strong defending from the home side, Horden grabbed three late tries to snatch a 25-15 victory.

Sunderland Under-12s had tries from Kyle Tyrens, Kai Haikney (3) and Jonny Robins in their 35-25 defeat at the hands of Blaydon.

The Under-12s responded in their next fixture with a 25-10 success over Houghton.

Four tries came from Haikney, with Tyrens rounding things off for Sunderland.

Sunderland’s final game saw they suffer a heaviest defeat of the season, going down 65-5 against Blaydon as this proved a game too far.
