Barca just not good enough – Busquets

Barcelona suffered a nightmare last night as Paris Saint-Germain took a giant step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with a stunning 4-0 first-leg victory.

Ex-Manchester United star Angel Di Maria produced two magnficent strikes to inspire PSG, as Barca equalled their worst result in Europe.

It could easily have been worse for the Catalans, too, as they were outfought, outrun and outclassed.

Stalwart Sergio Busquets admitted: “The were better than us. They played better, they were better tactically, they out-did us physically.”

Di Maria opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick on 17 minutes, and marked his 29th birthday by curling home a second after cutting in from the right to make it 3-0.

Benfica beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the other tie, thanks to Konstantin­os Mitroglou’s strike. Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang­missedapen­alty.

Benfica keeper Ederson said: “It was a difficult game, They are strong in attack but our defence was ready.” Dortmund star André Schürrle added: “We’d some good chances but things didn’t work out. Such days happen. We still have the second leg.”
