Prison visitors’ voice event for loved ones
A North East charity is inviting friends and family of prisoners to have their say on how services they receive can be improved.
A Visitors’ Voice event will be held between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday, March 15, at Bowburn Community Centre, Durham, and includes a free lunch and refreshments.
Helen Attewell, chief executive of North East Prisoner Family Support (NEPACS), said: “Following the press publicity about levels of violence and selfharm in our prisons, many of our visitors have experienced high levels of anxiety about their friends and relations.
“The focus of the regional event will be on how we can make prisons safer – how do we ensure that prisons make best use of vital information from visitors who are concerned that a loved one in prison is vulnerable?”
