STORY: Sunderland play down talk of moving training base to London

Alan Bell: They could train in Timbuktu for all I care, as long as we can put a side out that doesn’t get embarrassed week in week out.

Ross G Palmer: Absolutely

brilliant idea. I’ve been saying this for years. The days of footballers being ‘one of us’ are long gone – how many of the current crop genuinely live in Sunderland? Probably only Pickford, who’ll still be at his mam’s. The days of Sunderland players living amongst are long gone... Kieron Brady lived in our street when I was six, you’ll have to have a few million to get anywhere near a footballer’s gaff now. A London training base is ideal – fly them up for home games. Turn the AoL into the full Acadamy for the youth and occasionally first team training when we’ve two home games in a short space of time. Perfect logic. Should have been done years ago.

John Thomas Bell: This makes

no sense whatsoever. Where is the logic in having a training base hundreds of miles from the town they are from. They are a North East team.
