Whitehead focuses on Mags crunch

-

Huddersfield Town aim to derail leaders Newcastle United in tomorrow’s Championship match of the day.

Third-top Terriers will be back to full strength for their big test against the Magpies, having made nine changes for the midweek FA Cup replay at Manchester City.

Former Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead said: “We can take a lot of positives from our cup run, but we will forget about this quickly now and focus on Newcastle.”

Boss David Wagner, whose side are chasing a double against the Mags following a fine away success in August, is looking to close the gap to the top spot to just five points.

“The supporters will create an atmosphere that will maybe be the best we have ever seen at the John Smiths Stadium,” Wager said ahead of the sold-out 5.30pm kick-off.

“And this is exactly what we need to play against a top of the table Newcastle United.

“Therefore we have to create something special all together.”

Reflecting on Wednesday’s 5-1 FA Cup hammering at the hands of Manchester City, Wagner has called for his players to cut out their silly mistakes against the Magpies.

He said: “That is what we will show on Saturday at a different level, at home, in our fortress, in a very important game in the Championship. We need our players to make better decisions. We will show them some clips of this.”
