Sky pundits fearing for Sunderland

-

Jamie Redknapp and Graeme Souness admit that they fear for Sunderland’s survival chances this season.

The Black Cats slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City yesterday to remain bottom of the Premier League table.

The game was live on Sky Sports, and afterwards pundits Redknapp and Souness had their say.

“I do fear for them,” said former Liverpool and England midfielder Redknapp. “They have danced with the devil too many times.

“The personnel aren’t good enough.”

Ex-Newcastle United manager Souness believes the next few games, a home match against Burnley (March 18) and trips to Watford (April 1) and reviving Leicester City (April 4), are vital for the Black Cats if they are to stay up.

Souness said: “They have got to get some meomentum going.

“They have got to get some belief.” Goalscorer Leroy Sane won praise from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for his impressive performance at the Stadium of Light.

“Every day, he is getting better,” said Guardiola after his summer signing bagged his sixth goal of the season to double City’s lead.

“He’s in very good physical condition. He’s just 21 and he still has things to improve on.

“He’s so smart, an intelligent guy, and he will improve.

“We are here, not just the staff, but his team-mates, to help him to become what he can be.

“He’s a fantastic player and he’s so fast.

“We are happy with his performance.”
