Silva feels City are hitting top form at just the right time
Manchester City are hitting top form at the right time, believes David Silva.
The experienced Spanish international was captain for the day as City made it four wins on the trot with yesterday’s 2-0 success against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
In all, Pep Guardiola’s men are unbeaten in nine games in all competitions, with a hectic run of games coming up against Stoke City in the league on Wednesday, away to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday and a Champions League return leg in Monaco next midweek.
“We have to believe,” said the influential Silva, as City made it seven wins in a row in all competitions against the Black Cats, putting their miserable run of four 1-0 Stadium of Light defeats long behind them.
“We know the last two or three months are the most important part of the season.
“We’re in a good moment.” One the victory on Wearside, 31-year-old Silva added: “We have to be patient. We scored two goals and we could have scored more so we are happy. We had to keep going.”
Silva believes that Guardiola’s determination to keep improving his players is the ideal recipe for success this season.
“We need that,” Silva said. “To keep the intensity high.
“He’s always behind us and pushing us. It’s good for the team and you have to do that.”
City’s triumph, courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane either side of the break, moved them within eight points of long-time table-toppers Chelsea, and they still have to face Antonio Conte’s men on April 5.
