Lively Wolviston make it three in a row against Belford lads
Ashbrooke Belford House succumbed to a second successive home defeat, as lowly Wolviston made it three wins in a row.
The Wearsiders fell behind in the first half at Silksworth Welfare Park, with Junior MasandiandRobbieGrantontarget for the visitors.
David Johnson killed off the home side with a third goal from the penalty spot in the second half.
Wolviston are now four points clear of the drop zone after this vital win, while Ashbrooke Belford House remain in 13th position.
Belford face a difficult task at home to title-chasing Richmond Town on Wednesday night.
The only other game to beat the bad weather was on the artificial surface at Darlington 1883 Reserves, who lost 1-0 at home to leaders Jarrow.
The South Tynesiders increased their lead at the top to nine points thanks to their hard-earned victory.
Josh Allen had a goal disallowed in Jarrow’s bright start, with the home keeper making some good saves to keep the visitors at bay.
Jarrow needed keeper Mark English to make some stops to keep the game level, before the all-important goal came in the 50th minute.
Kai Elliott played an excellent crossfield pass to Jonny Hirst, whose first touch beat his marker and he finished clinically home from just inside the box, beating helpless goalkeeper Harry Dowding.
Darlington had the better of the rest of the match, with English producing some excellent saves to see out another fine win, a 23rd of the season, for Dave Bell’s men.
Jarrow are 12 points ahead of third-top Richmond Town, who have four games in hand.
Three further games are scheduled for Wednesday, with Sunderland West End visiting Seaham Red Star Reserves, Boldon CA hosting Cleator Moor Celtic and South Shields Reserves entertaining Annfield Plain.
A Boldon win would move them within two points of fourth-top Silksworth CW, still with a game in hand.
Blyth Spartans saw their lead at the top of the Evo-Stik League Premier Division cut to 10 points after a second successive defeat on Saturday.
Beaten 2-1 at Spennymoor Town in midweek, Blyth responded well to go 2-0 up in 21 minutes at Sutton Coldfield Town, thanks to a double from Luke Armstrong.
But Matthias Curley and Ryan Robbins levelled it up by the hour mark, and the Midlanders sealed victory with a Michael Townsend strike on 72 minutes.
Stourbridge beat Matlock Town 5-3 to sit in second spot.
Spennymoor Town’s home clash with Rushall Olympic was postponed, but they visit Whitby Town tomorrow, while Blyth host Frickley Athletic at Croft Park.
