A Durham construction group is supporting good causes across the North East through its charitable arm.

The Esh Group’s Esh Communities scheme has supplied more than £15,000 to 16 organisations and charities in the region.

Grant funding was handed to a mix of charities, social enterprises and community groups that operate in the same areas as the firm.

Following an application process last month the group of beneficiaries were selected from scores of applicants who demonstrated their work aligned with at least one of the company’s core values, including improving quality of life, supporting disadvantaged or vulnerable communities, increasing employment prospects, and promoting equality.

Darush Dodds, head of Corporate Responsibility and Added Value at Esh Group, said the applications to the 2017 Esh Communities allocation had included some ambitious and highly commendable schemes.

“This year’s recipients of Esh Communities funding are already doing some fantastic work in their respective communities,” he said.

“From alleviating the difficulties of homelessness to supporting young people suffering serious illnesses – these groups are tackling some of society’s biggest challenges.

“It’s a privilege for Esh Group to contribute to their efforts particularly because adding value to the communities in which we work is such an important guiding principle of the business.”

Esh Communities was launched in 2012 and has so far supplied more than £140,000 to community groups.

The scheme is supported by Esh Charitable Trust and is open to groups who operate across Esh Group’s regions with innovative approaches to tackling community issues.

This year a total of £41,833 has been given in grants to 48 projects and organisations across the North East, North West, Yorkshire and Scotland.

The latest organisations to benefit include homeless charity The People’s Kitchen; Little Treasures, a support group for parents and carers of children with autism; children’s cancer charity Victoria’s Wish and carers’ support organisation HOPS.
