SILKSWORTH AND RYHOPE

Pupils at Ryhope Infant School Academy have enjoyed a golden moment after a book they wrote and illustrated with Liz Million, a local author from Darlington, was launched recently. The book, called “A Key to the Past. Tom and Rosie’s Adventure”, tells the story of what life was like in a mining family during the Victorian era and is set in the school’s local area, Ryhope. The children, with help from Ms Million, researched the topic areas, and then used that research to create the book. They learned a lot during their time spent on the project and thoroughly enjoyed it. More than 60 youngsters took part and they were also given the responsibility for planning the book’s launch party, which was attended by the Mayor of the City of Sunderland, Councillor Alan Emerson, as well as other representatives from the area. A big thank you goes to all who supported the project with special thanks to the Heritage Coast Partnership, which organised the project, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Community Foundation (Fourteen Programme), which provided the funding.

The next meeting of the Church View Patients’ Group will take place at Silksworth Church View Medical Centre at 5.30pm tomorrow. The speaker will be a Cancer UK facilitator raising awareness of Bowel and Breast Cancer. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at the start of the meeting. All patients are welcome.

The coffee morning held at the IM Church, Silksworth, to raise funds to support under-privileged children in Eastern Europe via Link Hope was a great success. More than £400 was handed to Dawn Hughes, the organiser, who was delighted. Val Willis would like to thank everyone who has supported the event and made it possible.
