MAN IN HOTEL TRAGEDY

31-year-old found dead in city centre room

An inquest is set to be opened tomorrow into the death of a man whose body was discovered in a Sunderland city centre hotel.

The body of the 31-year-old man was found at Travelodge, in High Street West.

Northumbri­a Police confirmed officers were called to the hotel at around 12.15pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for the force said that there is believed to be no third-party involvemen­t and the death is now being dealt with by the coroner.

An inquest into the man’s death is due to be opened tomorrow at 11.30am at Sunderland Coroner’s Office, based at Sunderland Civic Centre.

Following news of the man’s death, messages of sympathy were left on the Echo’s Facebook page.

Denise Lovell posted: “That’s so sad, my heart goes out to his family.”

Helen Dawson wrote: “RIP very sad.”

Aliesha Kirkwood said: “Gone far too soon xxx”

Nicola Urwin added: “Poor lad RIP x”

The £6million 82-bedroom Travelodge was officially opened in November 2012, creating 18 jobs at the time.
