Readers split over rival camps

After Prime Minister Theresa May announced a General Election for June 8, we asked how you would vote at the polls.

Here’s what you had to say, commenting on our Facebook page:

Nathan Armstrong wrote: “Labour. Can’t believe people are even contemplating voting Tory after what they have done and continue to do to the north east. Not to mention declaring war on the most vulnerable in society while looking after their rich friends.”

Bryan Seddon posted: “Conservative because I think she can get us through Brexit.”

Paul Maple commented: “Another term for the Conservatives will see the end of the NHS and the working class will be hit with cuts that will devastate. Labour all the way.”

Ian Hutchinson suggested: “Why not vote for whoever looks capable of doing the best job, regardless of what colour rosette they have on? Then if they don’t deliver, get rid next time.”

Heidi Rowlands wrote: “I will vote Conservative for the first time. Never will I vote Labour again.”

Melly Kagoo said: “I have far too much respect for the NHS to even contemplate voting Conservative or UKIP.”

Ian Fowler posted: “I’d rather have a Labour government under any leader than the Conservatives in power. A vote for the Tories is a vote for more austerity, less employment regulations, further degradation of public services including the NHS and to continue to transfer wealth from the poorest to the very wealthiest and turn the clock backwards for ordinary people.”

Peter Richardson added: “This is genuinely interesting. As an exile I am surprised at the comments. Very intrigued. Will end up being a Conservative landslide.”

Lisa Cuthbertson wrote: “Backing her all the way she’s doing what was voted for to get us out of EU not like the others they doing what they want don’t trust them but think she will fight for us you go Mrs show them how it’s done.”

Colin Sanders posted: “Voted Labour all my adult life but it’s time for a change me thinks.”
