Top two set to play out title decider

-

The league title will be decided in the final match of the season, with Sunderland side Hall Farm Glasshus in pole position.

Hall Farm, who have already won the Durham County Minor Cup, will meet second-top Wheatley Hill WMC in the title decider at Leyburn Grove, Houghton, on Wednesday, May 10.

Both contenders cruised to victories in their penultimate league games, leaving Hall Farm two points above Wheatley, meaning a point or better will clinch the title.

Wheatley must win to snatch the trophy.

Hall Farm proved too strong for hosts Bishop Auckland Reserves, winning 3-0 thanks to strikes from Alex McDonald, Chris Bewick and Andrew Tatters, with Ian Canavan their man of the match.

Wheatley Hill, meanwhile, walloped Billingham 7-0, led by doubles from Kyle Middleton and Shaun Jackson.

Lliam Cockerill, Gary O’Neil and Jack Hart also struck.

In the League Challenge Cup, West Auckland Tunns eased to a 4-1 Group Two victory over Blackhill and Ebchester.

Andrew Taylor, Simon Carney, Andrew Campion and sub Luke Magill notched, with Dan McElhone responding.

Wheatley Hill WMC secured their second piece of silverware this season on Wednesday, beating Bishop Auckland Reserves 2-0 after extra time in the Washington Aged Peoples Trophy final at Seaham.

In the TWR Bi Folds Wearside Football League (2.30pm kick off ) Prudhoe Town host Silksworth CW and the visitors’ secretary David Steele said: “We welcome back Joe Clayton in goal and travel with a full squad and looking to finish the season well.”

The Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup Final takes place tomorrow, at Billingham Town (3pm), and it will see Northallerton Towntake on Stockton Town.

Stockton Town manager Michael Dunwell has a full squad available, as they look to add the Cup to the Second Division Title they already have.
