No room for defeatism

-

At this juncture in Sunderland’s history when a lot of hard working, innovative and ambitious individuals from Wearside and beyond are combining to try to win the 2021 City of Culture bid by engaging in a positive, forward thinking manner, I wonder how they feel about the continually disgraceful, negative rhetoric from David Moyes, manager of SAFC?

The club is one of the city’s most high profile institutions and one that can determine the mood of thousands of people who live in our area by virtue of its success or otherwise.

Almost since day one, Mr Moyes has acted as though he does not want to be at our football club or in our area.

Indeed, in relation to the latter point has he moved to the North East on a permanent basis to underline his commitment to Sunderland and its superb, almost blindly loyal fan base?

Moyes has tried to cover his disastrous, ineffective work to date by saying he’s been honest about the club fighting against relegation and the lack of quality in his squad.

I would suggest that he is clueless in his rationale of what constitutes realism and what constitutes defeatism.

He has obviously never heard of reverse psychology where you praise people to make them perform more effectively and with greater confidence as opposed to his continual morale-sapping moaning.

SAFC in the Premier League would have been a huge positive in the City of Culture bid as it raises the profile of our area globally.

David Moyes has flown the white flag of surrender for months now and let a whole area down very badly.

Sunderland is a city of fighters. Moyes has been a Glaswegian defeatist. Shameful. Tom Lynn
