Jye’s the big hero as Eppleton U13s win cup group

Eppleton Under-13s progressed into the Durham Cricket Board Junior League Under-13 semi-finals by winning the Central Division’s Washington Cup Group One.

Sunderland were all out for 85, with Sam Donaghue hitting an unbeaten 30 while Kyle Hutchinson added 17. Jye Richardson took 3-10, with Luke Johnson striking twice.

Eppleton found themselves struggling at 19-2, but an unbeaten 30 from Richardson, plus 12 from Ty Wilkinson, saw them home by three wickets. Boyzyk took two wickets.

Earlier, Sunderland (1373) enjoyed an 82-run win over Philadelphia (55-2). Washington then posted 86-2, but Philadelphia eased home by 10 wickets.

In Group Two, Burnmoor (122-2) beat Littletown (96-8) by 26 runs, while Hetton Lyons outgunned Sacriston by 109 runs.

Ethan Dixon, Luke Husband and Taylor Vout all retired unbeaten and Joe Weightman added 21 in Lyons’ 161-4. Nathan Martin took 3-10. In reply, Alfie McKie (21) top-scored as Sacriston closed on 52-6, with William Booth grabbing 2-8.

In Group Three, Chesterle-Street have won the group. Hetton Lyons B (104-6) beat Durham City (102-1) by four wickets to finish second.

Whitburn beat South Shields B by 44 runs in the Wally Hazard Memorial Trophy. Daniel Brown, Jude Ramsey and George Fairbairn all retired on 30, while Mark Trotter hit 28 not out in Whitburn’s 142-3.

Oliver Ward and Matthew May retired on 30 apiece as Shields responded with 98-5, as Mark Trotter (3-10) and Finlay Hearn (2-8) starred with the ball.

Whitburn also saw off Marsden by 91 runs. Mason Bell and Jude Ramsey hit 30 apiece in Whitburn’s 125-1, then Finlay Hearn grabbed 2-4 as Marsden replied with 34-8. Mark Trotter, Ramsey, Owen Johnson, Fraser Nicholson and Luke McCormick also struck.

Boldon beat South Shields B by four wickets to win the group. Jack Carr retired on 30 as Shields made 70-4, Ryan Barnes adding 19. Jacob McCord, Josh Davies and Isaac Morgan all took wickets.

Oliver Pallas then hit 32 to guide Boldon home in 11.5 overs. Charlie Mole and Kobe Clark took two wickets apiece.
