WAHEED TURNS THE SCREW
Seaham Harbour are still seeking a first win in Division One after going down by 114 runs at home to Boldon.
The Sunderland Road side posted a daunting 2567 declared after 48.4 overs, inspired by Umar Waheed’s 102-ball 65, with nine boundaries.
Nick-Sampson-Barnes (35, with eight fours), Ian Pattison (41, with eight fours), Oliver Sampson-Barnes (26, with two fours and a six) and Paul Leonard (23) offered the best support.
Jack Lacey (3-55) and Greg Davison (3-74) starred with the ball for Harbour, with Tim Niemand also striking.
The early loss of Adrian Hedley rocked Seaham’s reply and they lost wickets at regular intervals, dismissed for 142 in 47.3 overs to stay in second-bottom spot.
Lacey top-scored with six fours in a 49-ball 52 at No 7, with only Stewart Pattison (32, with seven boundaries), Mark Marwood (21) and Michael Nunn (17) making any inroads.
Ian Male wound up with 4-8 in seven accurate overs, while Anthony Brown grabbed 3-41 and Waheed 2-53.
Willington are now just two points clear in top spot, aftr losing at home to Washington in a very high scoring game.
Batting first, the home side racked up 249-5 declared, with Elliott Foster scoring 37, Jake Louth a magnificent 105 and Reagan Klemt 5.
In reply, Washington’s Abhijal Mansingh scored a brilliant century himself (104) and Stephen Cuthbertson scored 73 as they chased the runs down, despite Steven Alderson taking 6-46.
Sunderland were convincingly beaten by Brandon, losing by nine wickets.
The visitors reached 39 without loss before losing three wickets in quick succession as openerGreg Applegarth fell for 23 and fellow opener Muhammad Khalil for 16.
Ramanpreet Singh’s 62, with eight boundaries, and Jaspreet Singh (39, with seven fours) helped rally the Ashbrooke side to 124-4.
But they slipped to a disappointing 155 all out in the 43rd over as Moin Ashraf stole the show with 4-43. Gordon Muchall, Jordan Grosert and Ryan Green all struck twice for Brandopn.
The home side lost Ryan Nicholson to Quinton Boatswain for 17, but Matthew Brown’s unbeaten 60, with seven fours, and 77 from former Durham batsman Muchall, with 14 boundaries) steered Brandon to a comfortable nine-wicket triumph after 37.3 overs.
Burnmoor were beaten by three wickets at home to Sacriston, who picked up 28 points for the win to go second in the table.
After slipping to 10-2 early on in their innings, Burnmoor roused themselves as Paul Craig hit six fours in a 92-ball 50, with Liam Dixon making 39, with three fours and a six, and Mackenzie Wright 24, with four fours.
Down the order, Kevin Dixon added a useful 43 not out off 32 balls, with five boundaries, and Mark Robson hit 15 as Moor closed on 203-8 after 55 overs.
Callum Appleby (3-47) and Graeme Bridge (3-47) led Sacriston’s bowling, with Nathan Hall taking 2-41.
Reece Carr’s unbeaten 78 off 123 balls, featuring seven fours and a six, guided Sacriston home in the 47th over, with good support from opener Nathan Hall (31, with three fours), Appleby (20, with two fours and a six) and Graham Hubber (36, with seven boundaries).
Steven Meek snaffled 5-53 in a valiant effort to rescue Burnmoor, with Liam Dixon and Harrison Munton taking the other wickets.
Gateshead Fell had a narrow, but welcome sevenrun win at Blaydon.
Batting first, Fell made 181 all out, with David Williams scoring 33 and last man Jamie Arkle 37, which proved to be valuable and winning runs.
Blaydon were all out for 174. with Jamie Wightman smashing 51 not out. Durham’s former England paceman Graham Onions (319), and two wickets apiece for Cameron Oliver and David Daley, saw Fell home.
Burnopfield are fourth after an easy eight wicket win, over bottom club Mainsforth.
Mainsforth were skittled for 64 in 16.1 overs as only Robert Chismon (24) and Anton Muller (16) managed double figures. James Radcliffe snatched 6-26, with Callum Thorp bagging 3-38.
John Oswell hit 32 to guide Burnopfield to an eight-wicket triumph in the 11th over.
