A Wearside cricket club is hoping the good times will roll after it took delivery of new equipment thanks to a grant worth thousands of pounds.

Eppleton Cricket Club, in Hetton, recently celebrated the news that it has received a £9,140.00 funding boost from Suez Communities Trust (formerly SITA Trust) for their Let’s Roll project.

The money has gone towards a new roller for the Church Road ground.

The previous roller which was used to prepare wickets before games had broken down and was beyond repair.

Club chairman Jeff Park said: “We are delighted to receive this award from Suez, as no roller means no cricket.

“We can now look forward to continue providing cricket facilities for the local community for many years to come.”

Suez Communities Trust is an independent funding body set up in 1997 to provide funding through the Landfill Communities Fund.

To date the organisation has supported more than 3,900 projects to a combined value of more than £110million, using tax credits do- nated by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK.

The trust funds help to improve vital public recreation facilities such as village halls, community centres, sport, heritage, green spaces and play areas.

Marianne Ivin of Suez Communities Trust added: “Eppleton Cricket Club are a community-spirited club and we were more than happy to help with the purchase of the new roller.”

The club is always on the look out for new junior players of all ages. Contact junior co-ordinator Sam Blacklock at samblacklock1997@gmail. com.
