Kurt May took a drunk teenager, who was in such a state she was “falling all over the place”, back to his home and abused her when she fell asleep.
The girl’s mother, who did not know where she was, was frantic with worry so reported her missing to the police, who found her and took her home.
While on bail for that offence, the 22-year-old convinced a second schoolgirl to carry out a series of sex acts by saying he would “hurt himself ” if she refused.
The second teenager said she went along with what May wanted to “make him happy”.
Newcastle Crown Court heard both victims say their ordeals have affected their lives at home, at school and will shape future relationships with family, friends and partners. May, formerly of Pitcairn Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, admitted four charges of having sexual activity with a child and one of inciting a child to enspeak gage in sexual activity. Judge Amanda Rippon jailed him for four-and-a-half years with a sexual harm prevention order and sex offender registration for life.
Judge Rippon said the first victim had fallen asleep, after being sick, in May’s bedroom and was fully clothed, but woke up naked and sore.
The judge said: “Her mum had been looking for her and had reported her missing, such was her concern.
“The police phoned her to to her and they located and returned her to her mother.”
The judge said the second victim was “pressurised” into doing what May wanted and told him: “You threatened to hurt yourself if she didn’t do as you asked.”
The family of one of the girls was in the public gallery to see May receive his prison sentence.
Judge Rippon addressed them directly at the end of the hearing to pay tribute to their daughter’s bravery.
The judge told them: “I hope your daughter gets better and recovers.
“She is obviously very brave in what she has done, standing up for herself and coming forward. “
Jamie Adams, defending, said May has an immature personality as a result of his upbringing and has no parental support.
Mr Adams added: “He is not a sexual predator, he is not that kind of human being. These proceedings have awoken in him a sense of responsibility that he did not have at the time when he was behaving in the way he was.”
