Your chance to choose opening act at Sunniside

Bands are battling it out to share the bill with The Happy Mondays and Heather Small.

Voting is now live for SunnisideL­ive’sBattleoft­he Bands contest which gives one act the chance to open the second day of the festival on Saturday, July 8.

The winning act will launch the day’s live music, warming the crowds up for Lord Swans, Social Room (who won the competitio­n in 2015), Chris Helme of The Seahorses, The Farm and headliners Happy Mondays.

Acts vying for a place on stage are Rivet City, Cappellino,Regan,ArrowsOfTi­me, Nutopians, Tabitha Jade, Maybelleen, Cazimi, Under TheAbstrac­t,andDeadWet­Things.

Voters can listen to each entrant on the Sunniside Live website and pick their favourites, with the act with the most votes winning the prize.

Event organisers Helen Davies and Sean Maddison were delighted with the response to the competitio­n, which was open to solo performers and bands of all genres.

Helen said: “This is an opportunit­y for up-andcoming acts to hit the stage in front more than 4,000 music lovers and share the bill with some of the industry’s finest artists.

“We have been inundated with acts wanting a chance to perform at this year’s festival. We couldn’t possibly have chosen out of them all, so we are letting the public decide.”

Voting is live now and will be open until June 2.

As well as a headline set from Happy Mondays, this year’s Sunniside Live will also feature Heather Small from M People who will headline the first night of the festival on July 7.

The Friday of the festival will also feature performanc­es from Incognito, K Klass and DJ Allister Whitehead.
