Test ace Marlon hopes for another Super day at Hylton

-

West Indian international Marlon Black is hoping people will once again be hit for six at the ‘Super’ entertainment on offer at Hylton Cricket Club this weekend.

Former Windies fast bowler Black, who took five wickets on debut against Australia, including the scalps of Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer and Michael Slater, now plays for the Sunderland side, who are based at theBillyHardySportsComplex in Castletown.

And this Sunday, Black and the club will be serving up sizzling action on and off the field with his second Super Six Cricket event.

Black said: “Last year, people really got into the spirit of things. It was a great day and we have had families coming back to the club to sign up their kids to our junior section as a result.

“This is a community club and we want people to come along and see what Hylton is all about, and we hope by making the Super 6 an annual event we can introduce more people to the game.

“We restarted the club’s junior set-up a year ago and the Super 6 helped to show people what the club has to offer.

“Hopefully this year’s event might encourage even more people to come along and get involved.”

Certainly, Hylton’s past success in bringing through young cricketers is nothing to be sniffed at.

“Whatever club I play for, I like to learn a little bit about their history,” he said. “Hylton has an excellent history and has had a couple of players who have started out as juniors at the club and gone on to play for Durham (bowler Chris Rushworth and former England wicketkeeper Phil Mustard).

“Hylton is a good club and there is no reason why we can’t have more success here. It’s a club with excellent facilities and some great people working hard to make sure that Hylton is successful going forward.”

There is a fun element to the Super 6 Cricket Day with a lads and lasses versus mums and dads kicking things off at 11.30am.

“There will be a Caribbean style BBQ and a DJ playing throughout the day, and kids entertainment including a bouncy castle, face painting and refreshments.

“There promises to be some great cricket on display.”
