City pair on way to top – Jeffries

-

Excited Phil Jeffries says he is looking to help two Sunderland boxers take another big step towards title success,

The Wearside fight figure stages a 10-bout bill at the Rainton Meadows Arena on Friday, when Warren Baister and Isaac Macleod play starring roles.

Both are unbeaten and both face six-rounders as they look to exctend their 100% records.

Jeffries, whose star boxer, Glenn Foot, fights for the English light-welterweight championship against Philip Bowes on Saturday night, says he has never known it to be so good.

“I’m buzzing about the state of boxing in the city,” said the promoter.

“Josh Kelly is commanding big headlines and looks like he’ll do the business, but there are some real crackers on my show.

“Warren and Isaac won tons of things in the amateurs and it’s only a matter of time before they start bringing titles to Sunderland.

“I don’t manage Warren, but I am thrilled to have him on at the Rainton Meadows Arena. He’s only four fights into his pro career, but he’ll go all the way.

“Isaac is a talented kid destined for the top too.

“He’s three bouts further on than Warren and I’m going to get him a title contest at the Summer Rumble. I’m excited by both lads and Friday will be a big night for them. “Things are on the up. “I have Glenn at the York Hall on Saturday night and one of my other fighters, Lewis Ritson, boxing for the British title in the nottoo-distant future.”

Top of the bill at the Houghton venue on Friday will be a Northern Area light-welterweight title derby between undefeated prospect Darren Surtees (Thornley) and Ross Jameson (Middlesbrough).

Tickets are available on the door or by contacting Phil on 07747 611020.
