Your cake and eat it!

What’s your dream cake? A Black Cat battenberg? A Mackem macaroon, or even a Durham drizzle?

A popular cake shop, with branches in Sunderland and Durham, is giving Echo readers the chance to design their own cake.

As well as having their own creation delivered to their door, the winner can choose a charity that will benefit from proceeds of the sale of the cake in Sweet Tooth Delivery stores.

The chain, which has branches in High Street West, Sunderland; Belmont, Durham and Durham city centre, has recently opened its largest store to date, a ’50sthemed cake emporium in Sea Road, Fulwell, selling a range of cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, cupcakes and ice cream.

Manager Saad Muhammad said: “We have our own bakery in Seaham where all our cakes are made fresh so we don’t have any limits to what we can create, even if people require gluten-free or other dietary requirements.

“We change our range of cakes every three months so people don’t get bored with the choice.

“We’re usually inspired by ideas from staff, so we’re really looking forward to seeing what customers come back with, it’s great to get their feedback.

“This is our largest store in terms of size. Although we already have a site in Sunderland city centre, it can be a nightmare for parking for people, so we opened this as an option for customers. It also allows us to deliver to more addresses north of the river in Whitburn, the Boldons and South Shields.

“Our deliveries are a really popular for people who are at work or craving cake.”

Speaking about the new addition to Sea Road in a former kitchen shop, Saad said: “People seem to really love it, especially the ’50s diner style. They really enjoy sitting here and having some cake and a milkshake, especially the kids after school.”
