-

Comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner will be coming to Sunderland to open the city’s newest school.

Bremner, who is patron of the ADHD Foundation, will open Ashbrooke School and talk about his experiences with a presentation – ADHD and me.

The school, which took its first small cohort of pupils a few months ago, is a specialist provision providing education for autistic youngsters aged five to 18.

Based in the former SunderlandHighSchooljunior school building in Ashbrooke Road, the school is part of the Witherslack Group.

A spokesman said: “The impressive school grounds and building offer so much opportunity to our young people to grow, learn, make friends and be happy.”

The school will be officially opened on July 13 and visitors will also be able to hear from its headteacher, Derek Cogle, about his hopes for the pupils and his vision for the future of Ashbrooke School.

Guests will also be given the opportunity to take a tour around the school and see first hand what it has to offer.

The school opened with a small number of students and will grow slowly. Once full, there will be about seven children in each class.
