Layla an allround hit for U15 Girls

Durham Under-15 Girls secured a five-wicket win over Lancashire in their Women’s County Championsh­ip clash at Lintz.

Molly Gwynne (55) topscored as the visitors posted 157-6 in their 40 overs, with Layla Tipton taking 2-19 and Kelsey Potter 2-31. Erin Denyer also struck.

Durham were led off by Tipton’s 32, with six fours, in their reply, with Jessica Woolston (50, with eight fours and a six) and Hollie Forsyth (41, with five boundaries), leading the hosts home in the 32nd over. Zara Matthews bagged 3-23.

A Durham Cricket Board Girls Academy side claimed a two-wicket win over Northumber­land Women’s first team in a friendly at Whickham.

Lizzy Scott (36) and Ami Campbell (66no) steered Northumber­land to 155-4 in 35 overs, as Layla Tipton snatched 2-20. Eve Thomas and Jenny McDowell also took wickets.

In reply, Tipton (33, with four fours and a six), Alice Heaton (21), Venetia Bradley (26, with four fours) and Bailey Wanless (23) all made important knocks as Durham edged to victory with four balls to spare.

Durham Under-13 Girls were outgunned by Cumbria at Nunwick, succumbing by eight wickets.

Only Holly Spoors (10) got to double figures as Durham fell to 32 all out in 15 overs, Keira Berry grabbing 4-6. Cumbria eased home in the 10th over, with Laura Trotter and Libby Morton taking the wickets.
