Mark makes big debut impact for Masters

Mark Robinson made an impressive debut for City of Sunderland Masters ASC in the Leeds Masters Gala.

New to Masters swimming, Robinson tasted success in his first competitiv­e event for many years, with a series of excellent times at the John Charles Pool.

In the 30-34 years section, Robinson won the 50m backstroke in 32.17sec, and had four second-place finishes.

He was runner-up in the 50m breaststro­ke (33.02), 50m freestyle (25.91), 50m butterfly (28.93) and the 100m individual medley (1.07.60).

Sunderland had four swimmers in action.

Norman Stephenson had two gold medals in the 70-74 years category.

He triumphed in the 50m breaststro­ke (44.38) and 100m breaststro­ke (1.42.91).

Stephenson also ended second in the 100m individual medley (1.36.55) and was third in the 200m medley (3.29.15).

Graeme Shutt secured two wins and two secondplac­es in the 65-69 years category.

He won the 100m backstroke in 1.52.91 and the 50m backstroke (49.60), adding silver medals in the 100m individual medley (1.44.72) and 20m medley (3.56.04).

Lindy Woodrow managed three runnersup finishes in the 60-64 years section.

She was second in the 100m freestyle (1.42.56), 200m freestyle (3.39.13) and 400m freestyle (7.27.09) and also ended third in the 50m freestyle sprint (45.73).
