Glenn out to build on first belt

-

He will undoubtedly get a shot at Tyrone Nurse’s British and Commonwealth titles, and the European Championship is also on the table after a challenge this month in Sweden against Anthony Yigit fell through.

Foot has broken into the top echelon inside his first year as a lightwelterweight.

He explains he must redouble his efforts outside the ring and says being busy will be the key to success.

Foot admits to having had extended breaks from the Peterlee gym where he is coached by David Binns and says the East Durham College sports centre needs to see a lot more of him.

“I need to be fighting more and I need to be in the gym more,” said the Wearsider.

“I’ve had some bad luck. I should have been champion years ago, but now it’s my turn.

“If I can’t be British, Commonwealth or European champion then I’ll pack in.

“I had a great amateur career, beat everyone in the amateurs, boxed for England and captained my country.

“But this is brilliant and I want more of this.

“I’d like to thank my supporters and all my sponsors, Lanchester Dairies, Deluxe Decorating, Joe Hackie, Tuck plus Dave and the team and everyone at Sunderland ABC for my time there.”

But he added, clutching his belt: “This is for my girlfriend Talia, and daughters Jennymay and Bambi-Blu.”
