West End back in Summer Cup action

Sunderland West End have been drawn to meet Boldon CA and Hebburn Town in the LGV Summer Cup in preseason.

The competitio­n returns this summer, with all games at Northern League club Hebburn Town’s ground.

Wearside League outfit West End, invited back to the tournament, sit out the first group fixture, with Hebburn taking on Boldon CA on Friday, July 14 (8pm kick-off ).

West End then tackle Boldon CA in an all-Wearside League clash on Monday, July 17 (6pm), before meeting Hebburn Town on Wednesday, July 19 (8pm).

The other group sees Jarrow Roofing, Jarrow and Hebburn Reyrolle up against each other. The finals day, when the two group winners meet in the final, is set for July 22.

West End also have a number of friendlies arranged, including their annual charity match at home to Northern League side Easington Colliery at Ford Quarry on August 2.

Barry Cook and Anth Nelson’s side have a friendly trip to Grimsby set for July 1, before games away to Brandon United (July 8), Redcar Town (July 15) and Billingham Town (July 29).

Hebburn Town, meanwhile, have announced a home friendly against Ryhope CW for Friday, July 28.

Wearside League champions Jarrow will host Northern League First Division side Marske United at Perth Green on Wednesday, July 26 (7pm).

Scottish Championsh­ip club St Mirren are set to offer boss Jack Ross a new improved contract after the club fended off interest from Dundee.

Ex-Hartlepool United defender Ross, who guided the Buddies to safety in impressive fashion after joining from Alloa in mid-season, said: “I remain focused on continuing to build on the momentum we created in the second half of last season.”
