Fun for all the family at annual village festival

Families can enjoy a whole host of fun as a village festival gets under way.

A festival tea dance, flower show, strawberry teas, a family fun day and Whitburn’s Got Talent show are just some of the attraction­s on offer during the Whitburn Festival.

The event programme began with a picnic on the village green and continues tomorrow with the festival tea dance, running from 3-6pm, at The Barnes Institute, in East Street, giving older people a wonderful opportunit­y to enjoy music and dancing, sandwiches and cakes, as part of the Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee celebratio­ns.

On Wednesday, June 21, the pupils of Whitburn C of E and Marsden primary schools will compete in the Whitburn’s Got Talent contest, taking place at 6pm, in the Parish Church Hall, in Sandy Chare.

Whitburn Methodist Church will stage the annual Flower Show from Friday, June 23 to Saturday, June 24, from 10am-4pm, and on Sunday, June 25, from noon to 3pm.

An evening of music will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 7pmin Whitburn Methodist Church. The music theme will continue at the church the following day with songs of praise, starting at 6pm.

The festival’s family fun day will be held on Saturday, June 24, from 12-4pm, in Cornthwait­e Park and will feature stalls, face painters, inflatable­s, fairground rides and refreshmen­ts.

Elsewhere, Whitburn Parish Church will be offering traditiona­l cream teas to visitors from12-3pmonSatur­day,June 24 and from noon to 4pm, on Sunday, June 25.

CounTracey Dixon, a member of the Whitburn Festival Committee and local ward member, said: “The festival is really popular and I’m sure that once again local residents and visitors will have a wonderful time.”
