Wearside Field Club will meet tonight at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. Speaker will be Freda Thompson talking about A night at the pictures. The next walk will be on Saturday, July 22, at Scarborough and Thornton-le-Dale . It will be led by Alan and Norma Major.
A coffee morning will be held in Fulwell Methodist Church on Saturday from 10am to 11.30m. All are welcome
Fulwell Neighbourhood Watch and PACT meeting will take place on Thursday at 6pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. There is usually a police presence. Ward councillors also attend when possible. All are welcome.
A Fulwell ward surgery will be held in Mill View Club, Station Road, in the concert room, just turn left when you go in the door on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Councillor Beck will be in attendance.
An evening of entertainment and music including raffle, auction, tombola and more will be held in the Yacht Club, on Friday, July 28, at 7.30pm with a full bar. The evening is to support dogs and cats at Sava’s Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. Tickets are £5, which will be entered into a draw to win High Street shopping vouchers. A 50/50 tea dance with Johnny and Jean at Mill View Club, Fulwell, is held on Thursdays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Sessions cost £2.50 and include refreshments.
Due to the temporary closure of Fulwell Library, Councillors Bob Francis and George Howe will be holding surgeries in the
Blue Bell on the first and fourth Saturday of each month between 10.30am and 11.30am. They will be located on the ground floor in the right hand corner of the main dining room area. Thanks goes to the Blue Bell management for opening its doors to everyone. The next surgery will be on July 22.

Cleadon WI meets tonight at 6.30pm in All Saints’ parish hall. At the last meeting, George Nairn talked about old postcards showing slides of his collection, which was enjoyed by all present. Also last week the group hosted a summer afternoon tea in the parish hall with a handicrafts stall to browse and buy from. The group is also hosting an outing next week when they will visit the coastal town of Amble.
On Thursday, the Mothers’ Union of All Saints’ Church will meet at 2pm in the Chapter House, next to the church. At their last meeting members were privileged to listen to Eileen Bishop, the vice-president of the MU in the Durham Diocese, as well as celebrating two significant members’ birthdays.
Also on Thursday, the Thursday Club will meet in the Old Schoolroom, next to All Saints’ parish hall, at 1.30pm. The speaker this month will be Brenda Graham, who will talk about The Duchess of Cambridge – Northern Ancestors.
The Adele Forrester School of Dance takes place on Saturdays in All Saints’ parish hall, from noon to 4pm. There are classes in ballet, tap, stage and disco dancing for all ages from three years. There is also a Dinky Dancers class for children under three years, held in Cleadon Methodist Church hall on Wednesdays at 10.30am. For further information, call 07900687882.
A Paddy’s Market and Jumble Sale will take place on Saturday, August 5, from 10am, in All Saints’ parish hall. There will be bargains in clothing, bric-a-brac, books, jewellery, household goods and toys. Entry is free and refreshments are on sale. Make sure you remember the date.

The Cub Scouts Group in Ashbrooke is looking for volunteers. The Cubs are aged eight to 11 and meet in St John’s Church on Mondays from 6pm to 7.15pm. There are also other opportunities if you are interested in working with children and young people between the ages of six and 18. Parishioners of St Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Ryhope Road, will be holding their annual summer barbecue in the church grounds on Saturday, July 22. It will start at about 7pm, after the evening vigil mass. Musical entertainment will be provided by Andy Barker. There will be a vegetarian food option for those requiring it, while entertainment will include a quiz. There will also be a bar. Tickets are available after mass or from Tom Martin and Bernadette Lawson, costing £5 with children free.
