RESIDENTS TAKEN ON FIELD TRIP BY REGENERATION ORGANISATION AHEAD OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Sunderland residents have taken part in a field trip that will help inform plans for one of the city’s most treasured sites. Regeneration organisation Siglion took residents from the city with an interest in its plans for Seaburn to see Newcastle’s Ouseburn and Gateshead’s Staiths South Bank developments, to provide an opportunity to discuss aspects of the development that people like or dislike. Along with a planned trip to the seaside towns of Amble, Blyth and Tynemouth, residents’ feedback will then be used to shape a more detailed planning application that Siglion will submit, having had outline plans approved last month. There was a further session held on Tuesday, July 11, to discuss some of the placemaking activities people would like to see. Place-making activities are designed to create attractions and events that will begin to activate the site while regeneration work is under way. Siglion is also holding a workshop on Monday, July 17, at 6pm, to share some of the findings from its field trip and place-making session. This event invites those who have been involved to feedback their thoughts and findings to the architect and landscape architect, who will be working on plans and designs for the site. In addition, any residents who haven’t been able to join the sessions can meet the design team and find out more. The session is a closed event, with limited availability, but anyone wishing to attend should sign up at https://www.eventbrite. co.uk/e/summing-up-updates-and-next-steps-tickets-35508207003
