Carnival’s seafront screenings

LIVE MUSIC, FILMS AND RIDES PART OF FUN WEEKEND

Seafront screenings will open a weekend of carnival celebratio­ns.

The popular outdoor cinema shows will make a return as they launch Seaham Carnival, which takes place on Terrace Green and surroundin­g area this weekend.

Pitch Perfect 2 will be the first film at 6pm on Friday, followed by StandByMea­t8pm.

Saturday’s events will start with a showing of Disney’ s Mo an a at noon, with Beauty and the Beast at 3pm, with Seaham Music Academy to perform during thei nterval at 2pm.

Seaham Town Council, which organises the event, has brought in a bigger screen for this year’ s event-doubling the size of thecinemas­creen.

Live music will continue from 5pm, with local bands including Thieves of Liberty to appear ahead of tribute group Rollin Stoned at 8.30pm, with the night’ s entertainm­ent due to come to a close at 10 pm.

On Sunday, traditiona­lly the carnival’ s biggest day, events will start at 11 am with local groups to appear.

Tribute acts will follow, with one to Justin Bieber at 2pm, a Kylie at 3.20 pm, Paul McCartneya­t 4 pm, The Beautiful South at 6pm, Abba at 7pm, Freddie Mercury at 8pm and the Killerz at 9pm.

The seafront will also welcome buskers from 2pm to 5 pm, visits from Disney characters,with money to be raised for St Benedict’s Hospice, free children’s fairground for under sevens will be set up and there will also be a free climbing wall, penaltysho­ot out, kids go kart in ga nd activities on Church Street.

The marina will be open for businessas­usual.
