From across Wearside to far, far afield, people were donning their favourite sporting shirts today to pay a final farewell to little Bradley Lowery.

As the six-year-old was being laid to rest in his native Blackhall this morning, people of all ages were marking the occasion by putting on their colours as they paid their last respects to the massive Sunderland fan, who sadly lost his fight against childhood cancer neuroblastoma last week.

Bradley’s family invited people who cannot make it to Blackhall to wear a football top or the colours of their favourite team on the day.

It has been suggested donations of £1 to wear the strips or take part in a dress down day can be donated to the Bradley Lowery Foundation, which will help the families of children who have cancer.

Donations can be made via https:// www.justgiving. com/crowdfunding/ bradleylowerysfight.

I n schools and workplaces, football shirts were being proudly worn in Bradley’s honour while balloon releases were also taking place at locations including the Stadium of Light.

Echo readers sent in pictures of the shirts they would be wearing.

Among them were Washington dad Andrew and his daughter Isabelle Lowery – no relation to Bradley – plus Sean Warrener and little Harry Rose, aged four.

And tributes were being paid elsewhere in the country, including down in Chester, where 14-year-old Lucy Thornton managed to organise fundraising at two of her local schools.

Manchester United fan Lucy arranged football shirt days at Blacon High School and her former primary school, JH Godwin Primary.

She has been promoting awareness for childhood cancer within the schools, giving presentations to a number of different classes.

Lucy’s mother Polly said: “She has been following Bradley’s fight for a long time and she loved his smile.

“She became very fond of him and was understandably heartbroken when she heard that he’d passed away, as we all were.

“She just wants to thank Bradley’s family for sharing him with the world.”
