It was entertainment galore for families visiting Seaham this weekend as a traditional town fair made a comeback.

The annual event spanned three days and saw thousands of people of all ages head to the coast.

On offer was a range of fairground rides for thrill seekers, performances for music fans, a variety of stalls and children’s entertainers.

Despite the weather being slightly unkind, visitors took it all in their stride with many pitching tents to shelter them from the rain as artists took to the stage.

Amongst those performing were a number of tribute acts dedicated to Kylie, Abba, Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury.

Michelle Wilson, from Seaham said: “I come down every year with the family. It’s quite entertaining for the bairns. And that’s what it’s all about.

“It’s something the kids look forward to every year.”

Adam Hesslewood travelled from South Hetton with his children Joseph, five and Susan, two.

He said: “The rain didn’t stop us from coming down, all we did was wait until it cleared up in the afternoon. The kids were really looking forward to it.

“We always have a fantastic time and come to the Seaham Carnival every year.”

Joseph added his favourite part of the carnival was the rides.”

A spokesman for Sea ham Music Academy said: “We have a number of different types of bands who play various events and have been going since 1992.

“Seaham Carnival is one we have attended for a number of years and it has become the highlight of our calender.”
