Krul left out of Mags Irish trip

-

Rafa Benitez has left a trio of Newcastle United players out of his squad for the club’s training camp in Ireland.

Tim Krul, Achraf Lazaar and Emmanuel Riviere didn’t travel to Dublin yesterday. And Chancel Mbemba was left behind because of a “visa technicality”.

Adam Armstrong stayed on Tyneside ahead of an expected loan move away from St James’s Park.

Benitez, however, took Callum Roberts and Victor Fernandez to the club’s Carlton House base.

Krul, Lazaar, Mbemba, Riviere and Armstrong are expected to train with the promoted club’s development squad this week.

Benitez’s side return to England at the end of the week ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale.

Krul reported back to the club last week after a year spent on loan at AZ Alkmaar and Ajax.

The long-serving goalkeeper – who has a year left on his contract – faces an uncertain future after his exclusion from Benitez’s squad.

Krul had been hoping to impress Benitez in pre-season after recovering from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered playing for Holland in October 2015.

Benitez is looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer, and Karl Darlow, a target for Middlesbrough, could also leave in the transfer window.

Darlow, however, did travel to Ireland with goalkeeping colleagues Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman.

NUFC TRAINING SQUAD: Darlow, Elliot, Woodman, Clark, Dummett, Gamez, Haidara, Hanley, Lascelles, Lejeune, Sterry, Yedlin, Aarons, Atsu, Colback, Diame, Fernandez, Hayden, Ritchie, Saivet, Shelvey, Roberts, de Jong, Gayle, Mitrovic, Murphy, Perez.
