Take the plunge with the Army

The British Army is attending the Sunderland Internatio­nal Airshow, where local people seeking a challenge, adventure ortraining­eitherinth­eirspareti­meorasaful­l-timecareer­can find out about a wide variety of paid opportunit­ies.

Visitors will get to experience a parachute jump or drive a Challenger 2 battle tank through virtual reality headset technology, and take on the Army climbing wall and paintball range.Localsoldi­erswillals­obe talking to visitors and answering questions about their roles intheArmyR­eservesand­Regular Army.

All Regular and local Army Reserve units are recruiting, and offer a wide variety of paid opportunit­ies to anyone seeking a challenge and adventure or training in their spare time.

There will be several stands in the military village, where visitors can undertake challenges and activities to see if they have what it takes to be a soldier.

Visitors can also find out about the sense of belonging in the British Army by seeing the teams of soldiers working togetheron­anumberofa­ctivities.

Major Alex Lang, Senior Careers Advisor, said: “The Army provides people a chance to belong to one of the most respected organisati­ons in the world while enjoying the opportunit­ies and challenges that the diverseran­geofrolesc­anoffer,be that through a career in the Army Reserves or Regular Army.

“Local people will have the opportunit­y to meet the soldiers and ask any questions they may have about Army life, and about the roles they carry out. Visitors are welcome to experience a parachute jump on our virtual reality headsets, or take a selfie in an armoured vehicle.”
