NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL

Ryhope CW have a near fullstrength squad to choose from when they face a tough Division One game at North Shields tomorrow.

Assistant manager Stuart Gooden said: “North Shields will certainly be up there all season and probably top six, if not better.

“We played them pre-season and lost 3-1, but we were good on the day and just fell away at the end of that game.

“We want to give a good account of ourselves and can’t wait to get going in this massively tough game.”

As for team news, Ryhope have Simon Ord and David Gordon returning to the squad, but James Ellis is injured with his ankle and misses out, while Kyle Davis is playing cricket for Chester-le-Street.

Sunderland RCA take on Washington at Meadow Park, looking to make it three wins out of three this term.

Manager Martin Swales said: “We have made a positive start winning our first two games and we are looking forward to the big derby game.

“There will be a lot of healthy rivalry, as both teams have ex-players on both sides, including myself!”

He added: “Luke Page, our new signing, is in the squad and Adam McGuinness is back from a one-match ban alongside youngster Brad Wilson.

“There will be a fitness test for player-coach Colin Larkin and James Armstrong, but Rob McNab is out injured.

“Steve Stewart is concentrating on watching his son playing, so will not be my assistant any more and the club, staff, committee members, players and myself, wish him all the best for the future and thank him for all his efforts at the club.”

Seaham Red Star co-manager Chris McCabe was disappointed to go out of the FA Cup in the midweek replay at Whitley Bay.

McCabe said: “Although we lost, I was pleased with some of the individual performances. Goalkeeper Jordan Harkess kept us in the game with a string of great saves and Bradley Staunch gave one of his best performances since coming to the club.

“We’ll try and get a settled side now that players are back from their holidays and look forward to the Marske game.”

Red Star have injuries to Ash Davis (hamstring), Andy Brown (ankle).

Andrew Johnston returns for his first start of the season as does Liam McBryde, but Liam Hodgson is unavailable.

Consett travel to Dunston UTS, who have captain Dale Burrell returning, after missing the midweek game against Shildon, but Dan Capewell will be missing again due to injury.

Manager Chris Swailes said: “We were very encouraged by our performance in midweek against a very good Shildon side.

“We were leading 2-1 and created several chances to increase the margin, but found goalkeeper Nick Liversedge in superb form.

“Their class told in the end, but we are not far away and we are looking forward to the game against Consett.”

Exciting times are happening at West Auckland, as press officer Cliff Alderson said: “We have completely revamped the management team and have brought in Gary Forrest and Stuart Niven as joint managers.

“We have almost a new team as well, with several new signings. We have signed some quality players and have a very strong team, so are expecting to do very well this season.

“We won our first league game in midweek 9-0 against Guisborough.” West host Penrith. Shildon travel to Jarrow Roofing, while a full-strength Billingham Synthonia, boosted by new signing Tom Gavin, have a tough challenge at Morpeth Town.
